Complex 5-axis CNC-Machining of Robotic Exoskeleton Components

A complex stainless steel component made by our Makino a500Z simultaneous 5-axis CNC milling machine with horizontal spindle. This robotic exoskeleton component is designed to be used in the robotic industry, where precision and durability are essential.

One of the challenges was to mill off the work holding section of the stainless steel part. A special jigs was made to accomplish this task, while trying to balance tools wear and vibration on this hard and tough material.

To overcome this, we used high quality Seco Tools carbide end mills with special coatings and geometries that can withstand the high temperatures and pressures generated by the milling process. We also used optimized machining techniques and strategies that can reduce the cutting forces and improve the surface finish.

The result was a set of high precision stainless steel parts that met the specifications and expectations of our customer.
